Strategy and politics are heavy in Ukraine this week, my favorite subject matter so you know I’m all over it. I don’t even have time for introductions mf let’s get into it.
On July 16 the Kerch bridge that connects Crimea in Ukraine to Russia was attacked again. This time the bridge was attacked using suicide drone boats carrying explosives. The drones attacked the pillars on one side and damaged the roadway, the Kremlin said it would take them 2 months to fix it. Unfortunately for Ukraine the strategic railway that carries military cargo for that region does not appear to be damaged and 2 civilians died. There are some people saying the rails carrying capacity is now lower but I could not confirm that. If Ukraine had managed to take out the railway it would cause a lot of trouble for Russian troops in Crimea and to the north of it. Russian logistics relies heavily on trains, if the train can’t cross, supplies can’t get to them and they would have to abandon their positions eventually and move to eastern Ukraine or get trapped in by Ukrainian forces.
