Last week, footage surfaced of North Korean troops in military bases in eastern Russia. Ukraine is back to attrition warfare, and the U.S. presidential election is about to shake things up. Let’s get into it!
North Korean Troops
North Korean troops are now present in military bases inside Russia, likely training to better integrate into the Russian way of war or just cross-training. Their presence was confirmed by South Korean intelligence and by the U.S. Defense Department. South Korea also claimed that North Korea sent 3,000 troops and promised a total of 10,000. Before you get excited, though, this is unconfirmed intelligence from South Korea, and we don’t actually know what these North Korean troops are there for. Many people assume they’re going to be fighting in Ukraine, but we don’t know that for sure—it’s just speculation for now.
Why?
If they do join the war in Ukraine, why would they do it? North Korean technology is stuck in the early Cold War era. Russia could provide them with more advanced military technology and bring them up to at least the 1970s. In exchange for this technology, North Korea could provide troops for the Ukrainian meat grinder.
