China has soft power too, think funding into Hollywood and the NBA. Conservacucks still want to argue about GDP when they should be trying to change the culture. Luckily Trump has kind of led the way with that (his Presidency is another story). At the moment, I agree China isn't all it's cracked up to be but it does play the long game.
Read about Operation Aurora. Between 2006 to 2010 there few many hacks into Google, Pentagon and US-based defense corporations.
AFAIK, chinese have stolen a lot of worthy documents, like technical plans of F-35 jet fighter and it's software sources.
In 2011-2013 it was reported Chinese army was testing prototypes of jet fighters using similar tech that F-35 have.
I once read supposed interview with Henry Kissinger, telling that US has some psychotronic weapons that mindfucks targets permanently.
If nothing bad happens up to 2050, China will surely grow into not only richest country, but also very modern technologically, with super strong army.
Yet, US has Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works and as late Ben Rich stated in his autobiography:
"We already have the means to travel among the stars, but these technologies are locked up in black projects and it would take an act of God to ever get them out to benefit humanity.".
If China could hack these black projects already, the future will be... interdasting.

What long game? The one child policy that decimated their population?
